CareerSource Suncoast & New Dawn Electric: A Recipe for Success

CareerSource Suncoast has been working with New Dawn Electric for the past two years assisting them with recruitment efforts, pre-screening applicants, and on-the-job training grants for newly hired employees as well as employees transitioning to registered apprenticeships in the electrical field.

Apprentices are employed and earn while they learn technical skills that enhance their value. Apprenticeship has advantages for both apprentices and employers, and it combines classroom studies with paid on-the-job training while being mentored by a trade professional.

The employer designs apprenticeships to train employees on the protocols, business practices, and equipment used on their job.

For career seekers, being an apprentice is a proven way to avoid college debt and earn and learn on the job. Employees who complete apprenticeship programs earn an average of $300,000 more in their lifetime compared to peers who don’t.

Apprentices’ opportunities include:

Receiving paid on-the-job training;
Learning from an experienced mentor;
Earning an increase in wages as new skills are mastered;
Attaining possible college credits based on classroom or on-the-job learning; and
Earning an industry nationally recognized credential.

For employers, apprenticeships provide the opportunity to custom train a workforce to better prepare for future needs and growth.
Employers’ opportunities include:

Cultivating a well-trained, talented workforce;
Diversifying their workforce by bringing new talent into your organization;

CareerSource Suncoast helps career seekers identify local apprenticeship programs and their employers. We also help employers navigate the process of launching a successful new apprenticeship program or connect with an existing one.

We assist with recruitment and screening of candidates and may be able to contribute funding for qualified career seekers and employers for Related Technical Instruction or On the Job Training.
